Studio Hart opens in Allentown with exhibition of work by Buffalo artist Robert Hirsch in conjunction with upcoming Buffalo Philharmonic production Studio Hart is proud to announce its opening and inaugural exhibition on Tuesday, October 24. Located at 65 Allen Street in Buffalo, Studio Hart will present the handcrafted jewelry of Barbara Hart as well as rotating shows of area artists. Studio Hart adjoins Café 59 at the corner of Allen and Franklin Streets (one block east of Delaware Avenue) and will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm and by appointment. For its inaugural show, artist Robert Hirsch will display recent photographic work commissioned by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for its upcoming production of Shining Brow. Hirsch's images re-visualize and interpret historic pictures to create expressionistic backdrops that commingle and re-enforce the emotional and psychological content of the production. Shining Brow (the translation of Taliesin) is an opera with music by composer Daron Hagen (www.daronhagen.com/) and words by Pulitzer Prize winning poet Paul Muldoon, based on a portion of the life of Frank Lloyd Wright. The BPO will present the opera in concert version November 4 and 5 at Kleinhans Music Hall under the direction of Music Director JoAnn Falletta (see: www.bpo.org/). The opera's storyline follows the events of Wright's love affair with Mamah Cheney, the wife of one of Wright's clients. Moments of happiness are played against sober realities, where Mamah begins to see the true nature of her passionate but distracted lover. However, when Taliesin is completed, she and her two children move in with Wright for a period of brief tranquility. But it all ends dreadfully, when Wright cook murders Mamah, her children, and four other workers, and burns Taliesin to the ground, and then drinks hydrochloric acid. The 25 images by Hirsch on display at Studio Hart reflect the different scenes, characters and moods of the opera and will be projected above the orchestra during the performances. Robert Hirsch is a photographer, writer, and the Director of Light Research (lightresearch.net). His books include Seizing the Light: A History of Photography, Photographic Possibilities: The Expressive Use of Ideas, Materials, and Processes, and Exploring Color Photography.
